The Cumberland County Aerial Photographs of Samuel W. Kuhnert

Samuel William Kuhnert (1890-1978) took some of the first aerial photographs of central Pennsylvania, many of them in Cumberland County. Dating between 1919-1940, they are today a valuable visual record of how the area appeared between the two world wars. Kuhnert also photographed the airplanes of the era and the pilots who flew them. After his death his children donated his collection to the Pennsylvania State Archives in Harrisburg. A select number of his Cumberland County views from that collection are reproduced here.
