George N. Wade
George N. Wade, longtime State Senator representing Pennsylvania’s 31st district, was born on August 13, 1893 in Washington, Pennsylvania.1 One of 9 children, Wade started work in the oil and coal industry at sixteen years of age.

What's in a Name? Camp Hill
During ten generations the area now known as Camp Hill has borne five other names: Hendricks, Fort Pleasant, Oysters Point, Bowmanstown, and White Hall. Since 10 November 1885 an incorporated borough, it is part of the West Shore community that in 1731 was offered to Indian tribes as a reservation and in 1750 became the Penn family's Manor of Lowther.
Minerva White: Mt. Holly Gap Toll Gate Keeper and Her “Treasure”
Miss Minerva White and her mother, Matilda Vickers, came to Mt. Holly from Virginia in 1859. Minerva worked for several years in the paper mills in Mt. Holly, but about 1870 she and her mother took charge of the toll gate and ran a small store.1 After her mother’s death in 1885, Minerva continued to operate the Mt. Holly toll gate for another 19 years.
