George B. Stuart was born on July 31, 1912 in Carlisle to Walter and Laura J. Peffer Stuart Jr. Graduating from Carlisle High School, Stuart attended the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and Dickinson School of Law to earn his law degree, where he practiced in Carlisle all his life. Stuart also served in the US Army during World War II with the Officers Strategic Services in Europe. This intelligence agency coordinated espionage activities behind enemy lines for all branches of the US Armed Forces.
During his life in Carlisle, Stuart was an active member of the community and was involved in many organizations, both government and private. He was a member and former treasurer and trustee of First Presbyterian Church of Carlisle, former Cumberland County Solicitor, former attorney for Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board. He was also a former member of Carlisle Zoning Board, former chairman of Cumberland County Republican Party, life member of the Cumberland County Historical Society, member of Pennsylvania Bar Association, and member of the Empire Hook and Ladder Company.
Stuart was living at 3 South Hanover Street in Carlisle when he passed away at the age of 77 in 1989.
