On January 1, 1876, the Alexander’s of Bloserville gave a dinner to celebrate the beginning of America’s Centennial year. One of their guests was so impressed that he sent a letter describing it to the editor of the Carlisle Weekly Herald who published it.

On June 8, 1833, the Honorable John Reed, President Judge of the Cumberland County Court of Common Pleas, wrote a letter to the Trustees of Dickinson College in which he proposed opening a law school under his tutelage that would have “some nominal connection with the College.”

The need for a dormitory to house Dickinson School of Law students was recognized as early as 1898, twenty years before the Law School moved from its original home in Emory Hall, located at the corner of South West and West Pomfret Streets, into its current home in Trickett Hall on South College Street in Carlisle.
Judge Dale F. Shughart was born on July 21, 1913 in South Middleton Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Boiling Springs High School before earning a degree from Dickinson College.
