Private William Pope served in Co. B 32nd Regt. U.S.C.T. He was born about 1842 as a slave in Page County, Virginia.[1] [2] He was mustered into the war at age 21 on Feb. 9, 1864. He enlisted in Chambersburg for 3 years and claimed that he worked as a laborer. Pope was always present except for a short period in February 1865; however, the documentation is unclear about his disappearance.
Allen Powell was born in Front Royal in Warren County, Virginia in 1838. Allen was raised in Virginia, but few records detaling the nature of his upbringing have survived. Allen left Viriginia sometime prior to the 1863, as he enlilsted in the 54 Regiment of the Massachusettes United States Colored Troops in Readville, MA on April 29th, 1863. During the war, Allen suffered a shell wound to his left knee and a broken skull. Despite these injuries, Allen survived the war, and was discharged on August 20th, 1865 in Charleston, South Carolina.
Levi Richardson served with Company B of the 127th U.S.C.T. He was born around 1833 in Berkley, West Virginia, and was 5 feet and 9 inches tall, with dark hair, eyes, and complexion. He married his wife Margaretta on July 2, 1863.1 He enlisted on August 24, 1864, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and was mustered out on the same day.2 On July 29, 1865, he was absent due to his admittance into Corps d’Afrique U.S.A. General Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. On October 23, 1865, he was transferred to DeCamp U.S.A.
Joseph Rideout was born in Southampton, Pa, to Lewis and Christiana Rideout.[1] At the age of 18, he enlisted in Chambersburg as a soldier. His prior occupation was farming. During his enlistment, Rideout was a part of the pioneer brigade from June 1864 until April 1865. He was officially mustered out in Brownsville, TX October 16, 1865. [2] After the war, Rideout settled in Shippensburg. He married Emma Rideout in 1877 when she was 23 years old. As of the 1900s census, the Rideout’s had six children.
According to his headstone, George Riley was born around 1855. He served in the U.S.C.T., and lived in in the Cumberland County area. While it may not be the same person, a George Riley and his wife lost two young children to a house fire in 1880.1 He died on May 15, 1887, at the age of 32, and is buried in Lincoln Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.2
