Robert Alfred Parker
Robert Alfred Parker, son of George and Elizabeth Andrews Parker, was born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania in 1846. He and his family first lived in Franklin County, Carlisle, Pennsylvania; in 1860, he and his family moved to Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.1 According to the "U.S. Find A Grave Index for Robert A Parker", he had a dark skin tone with dark eyes and was about five inches, six-feet-tall.2 He had also been vaccinated for smallpox. During his childhood and adolecence, he moved to Carlisle with his family, later residing there in 1860.3 In November 1864, Parker enlisted in the army as a Sergeant in the 24th Regiment of the United State Colored Troops.4 During the war, Parker was injured, and mustered out of the service at Richmond Virginia on October 1st, 1865.5 From January 24th to December 1st of 1865, he served as a private and sergeant. Parker returned to Carlisle, marrying Eliza Korn.6 The couple had five children but divorced in 1879.7 Parker married again, but to Mary Jane Barnes. He fathered more than three children with Mary Jane Barnes.8 Parker passed away Feburary 24, 1890, and is buried at Lincon Cemetery on Penn and Pitt Street in Carlisle.8 According to his memorial record in the "U.S. Find A Grave Index, 1600s to Current for Robert A Parker", he was approximately 43 to 44 years old.9 His burial record in the Report for Veterans' Grave Registration Record states that he was buried in Section A-1, Grave 13 and had a marble gravestone.10
According to an "1860 United States Federal Census for Robert Parker" on Ancestry.com, his father, George Parker, was an African American farm laborer who could neither read nor write.11 A "U.S. City Directories, 1822-1995 for Robert A Parker" on Ancestry.com for Robert Parker stated he was living on "h 75 E Chapel al".12 During this period, there is currently no picture of his residence. The other family members who lived with Alfred Parker included the following individuals: his mother, 37-year-old Elizabeth Parker, 58-year-old Lydia Andrew, 17-year-old Esther Andrew, 38-year-old James Hall, 23-year-old Moses Stevenson, 16-year-old Robert Stevenson, 20-year-old Elizabeth Gibson, and 1-year-old Isaac Gibson.13
