George Lucas
George Lucas served with Company F of the 20th U.S.C.T. He was born in Pennsylvania around 1843, and was drafted in as a private at 20 years old on December 18, 1863, at Riker’s Island, New York Harbor. He was working as a farmer at the time. He was described as having black eyes, hair, and complexion, and standing at five feet, eight inches tall.1 In September of 1865, he was absent sick in a General Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.2 On October 4, 1865, he was mustered out from New Orleans with the rest of his company due to the end of the Civil War. He was owed $15.54 from the military for clothing.3
Lucas settled in Cumberland County after the war, and died at the age of 27 on January 28, 1870, due to consumption.4 He is buried in Lincoln Cemetery, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
