The National Register of Historic Places was organized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. Operated by the National Park Service, the National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America’s historic and archaeological resources. There are more than 80,000 properties on the register which includes buildings, sites, districts, structures, and objects.[1] The process for being placed on the register is an exacting one and requires meticulous documentation of a property’s historic value.
