H. Robert Davis, Jr. was born on August 11, 1920, in Harrisburg to Harry Robert Davis Sr and Amy Hoak Davis. Davis graduated from John Harris High School in 1938 and attended Harrisburg Academy.
During WWII, David served in the US Army Air Corps in Trinidad before returning to the United States and receiving an Officer Candidate School commission in armor at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. He remained active in the US Army Reserves, retiring at the rank of colonel after 34 years of service. He last commanded the 316th Station Hospital in Harrisburg after spending two tours as a physician in Vietnam. Davis was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service, the Medical Combat Badge, and Vietnamese Medal of Honor for his service.
He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and interned at the former Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg before establishing a practice in Boiling Springs. Davis was very active in his community and avid supporter of the South Middleton School District, serving several terms on the School Board, working as the school and team physician, and established The Bubbler Foundation to support the school and community. He also served as the President and team physician for the former Cumberland Colts semi-pro football team.
Professionally, Dr. Davis served as the President of the Cumberland County Medical Society and the Pennsylvania Medical Society. He also served as the Chairman of the Board of the Carlisle Health and Wellness Foundation for 10 years. He was an elected Supervisor of Monroe Twp., and also served as Chairman of the Monroe Twp., Parks and Recreation Board.
Davis married Lyla Townsend on September 6, 1946 and had a 54 year marriage until Lyla passed in 2001. Together, they have three children. Dr. H. Robert Davis passed away at the age of 97 in 2017 in Carlisle.
