Ashland Cemetery
Located on the York Road in the Borough of Carlisle’s east side is Ashland Cemetery. Its dedication took place October 8, 1865 with the Reverend Doctor Conway Wing giving an opening address.

Stephen Vincent Benet
Summer after summer Stephen Benet and his siblings,who were all writers, visited their maternal grandparents William and Mary (Mahon) Rose who resided in a Carlisle home located at the northwest corner of North Hanover and West Penn Streets.
Samuel Blunston and Blunston Licenses
By the early 1730s the proprietaries (Thomas, John, and Richard Penn) had decided to expand the colony’s western border across the Susquehanna River as far as the present day Kittochtinny Mountains.
Daughters of the American Revolution
The female patriotic organization was founded in 1890. Members are descendants of a Revolutionary War solider or an individual who contributed to the cause such as a civil officer or for providing material aid. The DAR is the largest lineage patriotic organization in the United States.
Benjamin Franklin
Intellectually, Benjamin Franklin was a very gifted person, with only a few years of academic schooling, he was a self-taught individual. Franklin was born in Boston, Massachusetts, one of ten children of a soap and candle maker.
North Middleton Township
North and South Middleton Townships received a charter of incorporation in 1810 dividing what was originally Middleton Township.1 This area in the twenty-first century is composed of residential and commercial interests and a few farms.

Some Benefactors of St. Patrick's Church, Carlisle
The year 1993 marked the centennial of the building of St. Patrick's Shrine Church in Carlisle. Just as the Rev. Dr. Henry G. Ganss published a comprehensive history of the parish in 1895, so it was deemed appropriate to prepare a brief history of the present church and its people during the last century.
Sons of the American Revolution
The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution was founded in 1889. One of the first meetings of the SAR took place in the historic Long Room of Fraunces Tavern in New York City.
St. John’s Episcopal Church
In 1751 Carlisle was selected as the county-seat for Cumberland County. The town’s square was eventually divided into four quadrants: south-east (stone quarry /Market House), south-west (Court House), north-west (Presbyterian Church), north-east (Church of England).
